Pictures from the 2008 Anchorage Coin Club Picnic
By Mike Nourse
As always, the day was cloudy and a temperature in the mid 60's, but there was no rain, and no complaints to be heard about the weather. About 60 people attended this year, a fairly typical number for this annual function.

The picnic was held at Abbott Loop Community Park off of Elmore street.

Just beginning to set up.

Here are the Anchorage Coin Club's 20th year medallions in their boxes. Most of them have already been purchased and are to be picked up here at the picnic, but there are some extras available for sale today.

Further back view of the pavilion the club had rented for this function. Yes, that is my two wheeled transportation on the left side there.

The lots which are to be auctioned off at the picnic already attract attention even before they are all set up and numbered.

It does not look too nutritious now but there will be some healthier vittles showing up as more club members arrive.

Larry Nakata is busy setting out the lots for the Summer picnic auction.

Club President Loren Lucason is assisting Larry with the setup duties.

The auction lots are starting to take shape!

A few more people are starting to show up.

Auction lots always attract the masses at a Coin Club meeting.

Time to start cooking. Unfortunately we could not open the flue above the grill, resulting in an ever present smoke cloud. Luckily there was enough of a breeze, as there always is in windy Anchorage, to keep the smoke exiting rapidly to the east from our covered area.

Another view of the grill. Getting hungry yet?

Still not much healthy stuff to eat yet...

Same situation on this table as well, though there is a glimmer of hope in the form of a vegetable tray on the left side of the table.

I am not the only one here with a camera!

Loren consulting the greatest single source of numismatic information out there: the Red Book.

The Young Numismatists are not waiting for the good food to show up; not when there are chips abundantly available.

A back off view of our covered shelter at Abbott Loop Community Park.

Same thing, just zoomed in.

Different angle.

The place is getting a bit more crowded now!

We put the Anchorage Coin Club banner out front.

Everybody is taking their turn looking over the auction lots.

Our cook is doing a great job, as he has done for the last several years.

A few burgers are ready... and being snapped up quickly!

Bill Hamilton is taking the healthy approach to lunch.

Hungry folks are waiting patiently for some more burgers and hotdogs to finish cooking.

John Larsen just dives into the finger food!

The eating area.

There's lots to choose from - nobody goes home hungry from our picnics.

Lining up for burgers, hotdogs, and Larry's famous teriyaki beef.

The auction lots have overflowed the table they were on.

All of the auction lots are now laid out for all to see.

Everybody is scattered around, eating.

Final auction lot viewing.

Determining who will be King of the numismatic hill.

Carl is getting ready to begin the auction.

Tables are starting to fill up with the auction participants.

The auction is about to begin.

Carl, our long time auctioneer, calling the auction.

Don't all bid at once!

Larry is recording who won which lot, and the amount of the winning bid. In the end, almost all of the lots sold.
This turned out to be an excellent location for our 2008 Anchorage Coin Club picnic!
