Early & Seated Liberty Dollars
for your consideration:
| 1795 Flowing Hair Silver Dollar ICG VF-25 (VF-20) | |
| Description: Attractive natural gray silver color. Uncleaned, no problems, no adjustment marks. ICG graded VF-25, I grade it VF-20. Three leaves under the eagles wings variety. The exact variety is BB-27 (Bowers Brockhardt 27), also categorized as Bolender-5 and Haseltine-5. Die state 1 (perfect reverse) with no evidence of a die break beginning at the left stem on the reverse. Die state 1 coins represent about 1 out of 20 to 30 of the BB-27 dollars in existence according to Bowers. Scarce as such. Little hair detail remaining as normal for this variety in VF grade due to the obverse head punch being impressed too deeply into the obverse die causing the hair detail to wear away prematurely. Discount priced right at Graysheet bid for the VF-20 grade due to the minimal hair detail even though that is normal for this die variety. | |

| 1798 Draped Bust Large Eagle Silver Dollar ANACS EF net VF-20 | |
| Description: The slab says that this dollar is corroded and cleaned, but that is a very harsh description. It looks quite decent, and I have seen much worse sold as no problem coins. Just a bit of minor pitting on the reverse, otherwise a nice original looking coin. No adjustment marks. Price reduced by half from the regular EF price. The variety is not noted on the slab, but it is BB-124 or Bolender-24. Best known for it's reverse, which is the "Blundered Stars Reverse" with two of the upper stars punched about half way into the clouds. This coin is die state III, with a die crack easily visible connecting star 12 to the denticles on the obverse and weakness of the stars above and right of the eagle's head on the reverse. | |

| 1798 Draped Bust Dollar NGC VF-30 | |
| Description: Super original color, good detail, and no adjustment marks. Great example. The variety is noted on the slab as being pointed 9, wide date. Bowers-Brockhart-124, Bolender-24, the blundered stars reverse. Die state II, in which all of the stars on the reverse are still clearly visible. Scarce as such. | |

| 1798 Draped Bust Large Eagle Silver Dollar ANACS EF-40 | |
| Description: Nice original Extra Fine bust dollar. No adjustment marks or other problems. New ANACS slab. Listed as Bolender-6 variety on the slab, which translates to BB-96. Knob 9 on the obverse, large letters on the reverse. The letters used on the reverse are those that were first used in 1796 and then replaced a bit later in 1798. Die state III. | |

|
| 1798 Draped Bust Large Eagle Silver Dollar ICG EF-40 | |
| Description: Bolender-10 variety. Also known as BB-109 from
the Bowers silver dollar encyclopedia. A scarce variety of which Mr. Bowers
estimates that between 75 and 125 specimens exist in all grades. This
particular piece was in the Warren Miller collection, and is notated as such
on the slab. Mr. Miller collected 114 of the 118 varieties of early dollars.
His collection in it's entirety was slabbed by ICG and was displayed by ICG
at the ANA show in New York in 2002.
The Bowers dollar encyclopedia notes that this variety is always weak in the central areas on both sides, as is this specimen. The toning level is generally light with a mixture of blue and gold on the obverse and mostly gold on the reverse though there is some blue in the area of the clouds on the reverse. |

| 1798 Draped Bust Large Eagle Silver Dollar PCI EF-45 | |
| Description: No problems, decent eye appeal. Hard to locate without problems. Only the slightest trace of adjustment marks on the reverse, not at all distracting. Some original luster remains. Excellent color, as so many of these early coins are very dark. Bargain priced as an EF-40. BB-125 or Bolender-8. Die state II with the usual weak obverse stars. Some specimens are completely missing a star or two, though all stars are clearly visible on this piece. This is the only variety this year that has four berries on the olive branch on the reverse, and the berries are relatively large. | |

| 1798 Draped Bust Large Eagle Silver Dollar ANACS AU-50 | |
| Description: Attractive, original Bust dollar. No adjustment marks at all. Really has very little wear, with all hair details fully visible. Listed as Bolender-28 variety or BB-118, the only variety which uses this reverse die. This obverse (number 13) is notable for the numeral 8 in the date which is placed much too high relative to the rest of the date, and leaning a little bit to the right. Die state IV. The reverse die was noticeably out of alignment when this coin was struck, with the obverse being well centered while the reverse is substantially off center toward the 2:00 position. | |

| 1799 Draped Bust Dollar ANACS VF-30 | |
| Description: New ANACS slab. Nice original gray color. No adjustment marks, which increases it's desirability. Popular grade. The variety is BB-166 or Bolender-9. Quite easily identified variety by the small die crack on the obverse which connects the bottom of the 1 in the date to the rim on the obverse. The easy identifying mark on the reverse is a small 'apostrophe' die crack after the second S in States. Die state II in which the obverse die crack does not yet quite reach the bottom of the 1 in the date. | |

| 1799 Draped Bust Dollar ANACS EF-40 | |
| Description: New ANACS slab. Was formerly in an old ANACS slab graded EF-45. Silver gray color, great eye appeal. Very clean with no adjustment marks. This specimen appears to be the BB-164 variety, also catalogued as Bolender-17. BB-164 is the only variety to use Reverse L which is noted as having very large berries on the olive branch - the largest berries of any 1799 dollar. Die state III. | |

| 1799 Draped Bust Dollar ANACS EF-40 | |
| Description: New ANACS slab. Light gray color. No adjustment marks, or any other significant marks. Noted on the slab as being a Bolender-9 variety or BB-166. There are a few stress cracks in the slab in the lower right corner that in no way affect the coin. #b | |

| 1799 Draped Bust Dollar ANACS EF-45 | |
| Description: New ANACS slab. Excellent specimen for the grade. Original gray color with no adjustment marks at all. The variety is Bolender-8 or BB-165. The lines that appear in the upper left of the coin are actually stress marks in the plastic of the slab. BB-165 uses an interesting obverse die in which Miss Liberty has her mouth noticeably open. | |

|
| 1799 Draped Bust Dollar ANACS AU-50 (EF-45) | |
| Description: Just lightly toned. I grade it EF-45. Good eye appeal, and probably is a full AU with a slightly weak strike. The variety is BB-161 or Bolender-11. The BB-161 is the final use of reverse die I, which had been reground earlier when it was mated with obverse 5 (BB-158). The earlier regrinding of the reverse die left it with no berries at all left on the olive branch. Die state II, in which there is a large die break on the reverse next to the D in United on the reverse, bit the break ends at the ribbon without continuing on through the eagle's head. #a | |

|
| 1800 Draped Bust Dollar ANACS AU Details Net EF-45 | |
| Description: Net graded by half a grade due to two minor obverse scratches. One is on the lower part of the bust and the other is in front of Miss Liberty's face. Both are thin and shallow and not very distracting at all, being well hidden under a very attractive light gold tone. The light gold color is enhanced by luster remaining in protected areas. No adjustment marks and scarce as such. Discounted by $2400 or about 1/3 due to the minor scratches. The variety is BB-188 or Bolender-8. Obverse die markers include a dot inside the lower left part of the R in Liberty. The reverse is also easy to identify as the three upper stars on the right do not touch the clouds while the three on the left each have one point touching the clouds. Die state I. | |

| 1800 Draped Bust Dollar NGC EF-45 | |
| Description: Nice silver gray color. Very good hair detail, and good definition on the obverse stars. No adjustment marks. Better date than the 1798 and 1799. Variety is BB-190 or Bolender-10. Wide date obverse with the 00 very wide apart and the 8 a bit low. Reverse F, upon which the top row of stars touch the clouds above. Die state VI. | |

| 1801 Draped Bust Dollar VF-30 Repaired | |
| Description: This is really a fabulous dollar. It was pre-graded by ICG as VF-30 to 35, repaired. I am not exactly sure what the repair is, but I think it is a filled hole. The repair is essentially invisible, and the dollar has great eye appeal. Here is a chance to acquire a beautiful specimen at a bargain price. Priced well below VG Greysheet bid of $1700. Another plus on this dollar is that it is the scarcest of the four die varieties of 1801, the BB-124 or Bolender-4. This is the only one of the four 1801 die varieties to use this obverse die, which is easily identified by the very close proximity of the first 1 in the date to the lower hair curl. The other obverse which is used for all three of the other varieties has the number 1 noticeably further from the hair curl. | |

| 1845 Seated Liberty Silver Dollar ANACS MS-61 | |
| Description: Dave Bowers, in his two volume silver dollar encyclopedia, says that the 1845 seated liberty dollar may well be the rarest Philadelphia date in the entire series, even more so than the more famous rarities of 1851 and 1852. Nice original antique gray toning. Excellent eye appeal for the grade, and only half the price of a MS-63. The surfaces are semi prooflike. New ANACS slab. | |
